Horseback Rides Through the Atacama Desert

🌄 Explore the desert on horseback
Explore the most breathtaking landscapes of San Pedro de Atacama at a leisurely pace on horseback. An authentic experience that connects you with nature, history, and the vastness of the desert. It’s a deeply reflective activity that you’ll thoroughly enjoy.
You can choose from different routes based on your skill level and preferences:

  • Cordillera de la Sal: Duration: 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours. Ideal for beginners or those who have never ridden a horse before. The ride combines gentle trails, ravines, and panoramic views through the Cordillera de la Sal, passing through what is popularly known as the Valley of the Dinosaurs.
  • Death Valley. Duration: 3 hours. A more challenging trek through dunes, rock formations, and natural viewpoints that seem to be from another planet.
During the tour, the silence of the desert, the wind, and the sound of the horse’s hooves offer a unique way to explore and appreciate the beauty of the surroundings. This tour requires a $6,000 entrance fee, payable by credit or debit card.
  • Catarpe Valley. Duration: 4 hours. Recommended for true horseback riding enthusiasts, as the tour involves riding for an extended period of time. You’ll visit a beautiful, fertile valley just a few kilometers from San Pedro de Atacama and pass through a section of an abandoned tunnel.
You must pay a $5,000 entrance fee to Catarpe (cash only).
