Immerse yourself in a secret oasis on the high plateau: Guatín Canyon, also known as the Valley of the Cacti, where the aridity of the desert meets the vitality of water. This hike takes you along a trail that crosses ancient riverbeds, hidden waterfalls, and forests of ancient cardon cacti up to 1,200 years old. (They grow about 1 cm per year.)
The route also offers views of Andean flora, striking rock formations, and, in certain sections, little-known archaeological ruins.
During the hike, you’ll cross small streams, walk among rocks, and, weather permitting, cool off in natural pools formed by waterfalls. It’s an experience that brings you into deep connection with the earth, perfect for those who enjoy hiking, botany, and being out in nature. Plus, you’ll come away with some spectacular photos.
