Explore one of the most enigmatic corners of the Atacama Desert: Vallecito, a vast expanse of arid land covered in salt and surrounded by mountains and unique rock formations, where time seems to stand still.
This valley, located in the Cordillera de la Sal and little known to many travelers, has served as the setting for international film shoots and photo shoots—including movies like Star Wars and James Bond—thanks to its lunar atmosphere, absolute silence, and surreal landscapes. It’s also the place on Earth that most closely resembles Mars. Are you up for the challenge?
During the tour, you’ll visit an old salt mine and stop at the iconic “Magic Bus”—a mysterious abandoned minibus in the middle of the desert that has become one of the area’s most popular and iconic photo spots. You’ll also visit lookout points offering unique, sweeping views of the salt flat and the mountain range.
The experience culminates with a relaxing cocktail at sunset, as the sky turns vibrant hues over the salt flats. It’s the perfect moment to unwind, enjoy the silence, and raise a toast beneath the vast Atacama sky with our famous and unique homemade Pisco Sour with Rica Rica.
Why do we love Vallecito?
It’s a great alternative to the Valle de la Luna tour, since the scenery and the sights are quite similar. However, you get to experience it with more freedom, there are far fewer people at each spot, you can use a drone or similar devices, and there’s no entrance fee. For us, it’s truly a must-see.
